Ovejas debajo de las naranjas de primavera en Soller (Sheep under the spring oranges in Soller)
The week was changeable with snow in the mountains and one day rain the next sunshine. All the rain has made the valley lush and a blaze of colour with almonds in bloom and yellow flowers covering the meadows. The oranges and lemons continue to plump and getting ready to start dropping. We walked to Formalux one afternoon and came across this small family of sheep with a young lamb. The lamb obviously was dealing with his own challenges and his rear foot came up and proceeded

Caminos antiguos compartidos con ovejas
My latest trip to Soller was again inspiring. Annie and I walked from Soller to Deia. We started the steep climb up from the Town up through the Olive farms and terraces with superb views back across the valley. We only intended to walk half way to the refuge then catch the bus back but walking in these hills is adictive and we continued on. Annie loved seeing Ca Xoc again and remembering our stay there some years ago and had to pose for a picture in front of their huge old

Ovejas Sóller siguiendo a su líder
I posted some photos i had taken on my walk across the mountains from Soller to Diea. The scenes change over what is a leisurely 3 hour walk. At first we have a steep climb on a stone track that winds up the mountain to Ca Xoc, a boutique little hotel we once stayed in many years ago when we first came together to Soller. Then we go through a wooded path before we start the long descent into the beautiful mountain village of Diea which is famous for its artists, Robert Graves

Burros de Vacaciones
The pony can go places no four wheeled vehicle can in the Tramuntana mountains around Soller in Majorca and can often be seen pulling old trees through the terraces especially when the Olives are being pollard. Unlike the sheep and chickens they stop and stare straight at you not moving and inch. They come mainly in a shaggy brown coat but can be all colours and are most content grazing in the Olive terraces. The hardest part of this composition was the Olive trees which crea

'Ovejas en las terrazas de Olivo en Soller'
The mountains around Soller Valley are full of the clanging bells of the sheep as they graze on what little grass there is. Each movement results in the bell clanging which makes spotting them easy but its a good job there are not large herds of them! They roam the steep old arabic terraces which are planted with old Olive trees which are knurled and twisted with age and hard pruning. The trees themselves are pieces of natural architecture each unique and some hundreds of yea

Pollos de primavera bajo las naranjas
In March the fields around Soller are awash in yellow flowers. Its like a sea of yellow which brightens up everything it touches. In soller the Lemons and Oranges hang in abundance from every tree and the whole valley is in bloom. The clanging of sheep bells fills the mountains and in the valley the sound is of the chickens often as in the painting under the trees. This was the first time i have seen them pecking at the oranges but why not? What always amazes me is the rich v
