'Cabra de montaña mallorquina en la cima del mundo'

This painting was inspired by my walk between Valldemossa and Deià in or should i say on top, of Serra de Tramuntana Mountains of Majorca.

First the bus from Soller to Valldemossa which on a clear sunny day was full of walkers. Then the steady and often hard ascent to the top which at some 927 metre (3100 feet) is not easy, But well worth it as the views are spectacular from the ridge. You can see half of the island with Palma to the south, Andratx to the east, Soller to the west and Deià down below.

Unlike other walks there are not a lots of signposts just lots of cairns you follow as the path often disappears. The descent towards Deià is very hard to find and when found you jig jag down a narrow track which in places hugs to the rock face and almost disappears when you hit the wooded area. I got lost in the woods and it was difficult to navigate your way and avoid the treacherous steep hillside you were going down. Eventually after some 5 hours of walking you reach Deià and catch the bus back to Soller.

The only animals you see are sheep and only on the very top and goats who have this eerie stare as they look down at you as if to say 'this is my mountain, bugger off!'

I would not recommend this walk to anyone with vertigo or on a windy or wet day. Often the mountain top is in the clouds but on this day there were none to be seen.
