Oveja, debojo, almendro, flor

When you walk around the mountain paths in Soller Valley, you see thousand year old Olive trees twisted and knurled, but still forcing their shoots and fruit to the sky. These share the escarpments with Almond trees on the lower levels and all are bedded into the hillside within Arabic terraces of dry stones walls. The animal that is often heard but not always seen is the sheep. These roam the terraces and they come in all sizes, shapes and colours and all with those piercing eyes and clanging bells around their necks.

This composition is aimed at capturing the surefooted sheep under the blossoming almond trees which add a touch of snowscape to the landscape in the Spring.

Acrylic on canvas, 65cm x 54cm
