My Favourite Group of Artists

The Glasgow Boys was a group of artists that emerged in the late 19th Century and were influenced by the Realism, Impressionism and Post impressionism movements. They were collected by the Glaswegian William Burrell and many reside within his museum in Pollokshields and also in the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow.

I first was inspired by their work when i lived in Glasgow and my then company published 'The Glasgow Boys'. I actually have three copies of the book but this is a gem which promotes the talents of: Joseph Crawhall, Edward Walton, James Nairn, William Macgregor, Arthur Melville, E Hornel, John Lavery, George Henry, James Gutherie.

Now Bibliophile has sourced another book by art historian Susie |Hodge on these as part of her 'Masterpieces in Art' series and again simply titled 'The Glasgow Boys' It is a true bargain buy.

This book has many paintings i have not seen previously and many old favourites. A must for all who love this important era in art and fine painting.
